We build and fix decks for homeowners in Bradenton and the towns around it. A lot of the calls we get aren't for a brand new deck, they're for one that's ten or fifteen years old and starting to show it: boards cupping, screws backing out, a ledger board held on with rusted nails. If that's where you're at, you're not alone, salt air and Florida humidity are hard on lumber. We can usually tell on a walkthrough whether a deck needs a few boards or a full rebuild.
We flash the ledger board properly where it meets the house, since that's the joint that lets water into the rim joist if it's skipped. We use stainless or coated fasteners instead of whatever's cheapest, because regular galvanized hardware corrodes fast this close to the Gulf. For framing we run joists on 12 or 16 inch centers depending on the decking you pick, tighter for composite than for wood. That's the difference between a deck that's still solid in five years and one that starts to bounce.

Our deck out in Bradenton had gone almost silver, hadn't been touched in years. They pressure washed it, let it dry a couple days, then sealed it and it looks like wood again instead of driftwood.
